So this is my first outfit post from London! Freshers week was a whirlwind so I didn't have chance to shoot anything (sad because I had some fab outfits, if I do say so myself). I'm starting to settle into more of a routine now and have found willing photographers' assistants (aka. my flatmates) so hopefully will go location scouting and be posting normally again! :)

LFW streetstyle

Ok so I know the whole "real streetsyle" v "fashion week peacock-ing" is debated but to me, if someone is on the street wearing clothes, their outfit is veritable street style. I moved down to the big ol' city for uni in the middle of London Fashion Week and since I'm studying fashion (what else?) on Monday morning, we were sent off down to the shows to see what we could armed with excited and cameras but sans tickets or passes. One of our assignments was to photograph outfits we loved and hated so here's some of what I saw and shot.

And on another note, it was really hot in London so I don't know how all these people managed to survive in layers and fake fur! Clearly they are made of stronger stuff than me. Maybe one day I'll get to their level of heat resistance. :)

I've just moved to London to study fashion design (of course), and the past few days have been a whirlwind of new people, trying to sneak into fashion week shows, and obviously, fabulous clothing. I haven't had chance to take outfit photos yet so here are some more leftovers from Texas a few weeks ago.

Several miles down the highway from the tiny desert art town of Marfa, Texas, is the Prada Marfa installation by Elmgreen and Dragset. Made to look like a boutique, equipped with real Prada shoes and bags, it was high on my list to visit because, duh, Prada art in the desert. :)

It has suddenly got really cold here in Manchester so I'm dreaming of the heat of the southwest again. I know, I know, I "hate" hot weather but I'm pretty sure my love for the desert acclimatised me to 30+ degrees. Although we did visit the desert town of Twentynine Palms, these photos were actually taken back in San Diego. The title just seemed appropriate. :)

vintage top from Cow

bag from Bangkok
River Island shoes

I came across this top during the launch party for the new Cow Manchester store (still need to photograph the outfit I wore to that…) - I've not seen anything like it before. The print really reminds me of a Western orientalist painting at the time of the French post-impressionists; kind of like Gauguin but someone infatuated with Japan rather than Haiti. In any case, anything with faces on gets my attention (also the colours are fab!). Also, my green lips are not due to Photoshop but rather a mixture of OCC lip tars which were high on my list of things to get from the States. I haven't experimented much with them yet but expect multicoloured lips to become my new trademark! :)

jeans made by me

Converse

For the past week and a half I have basically been wearing variations on this outfit, rotating between three pairs of printed jeans and various plain-ish tops. But these jeans are special because a. they're not denim (I think they are actually curtain fabric but whatever) so they are soft and super comfortable, and, more importantly, b. I made them. Yeah, I make quite a lot of clothes now but jeans are supposedly difficult because they have special seams and a complicated zip, so I feel pretty damn proud of having made my own jeans from scratch and that they fit perfectly. And how amazing is this fabric?! I got it from Amsterdam earlier this summer and as soon as I saw it, I knew I had to wear it. Loads of people have said that the print reminds them of my Worship project (that project has resulted in a lot of spin-off clothes inspiration for me!). I guess I just love colourful, kitschy, fun stuff. :)

The title of this post is the title of an album by Shari Elf that I picked up from another funky desert stop, this time in the town of Joshua Tree. We visited Shari's World Famous Crochet Museum and shop/gallery Art Queen and even without her actually being there (we let ourselves in), she single-handedly re-ignited my desire to live in the desert with a bunch of artistic renegades!

About these photos: taken back at the Cabazon dinosaur park, I was just doing some standard editing when I accidentally managed to turn the second photo purple. I could only recreate the effect on two other photos but I love it - they look like film posters for a 1950s/60s surreal sci-fi film don't they? :)

Ps. Also, definitely one of the best albums I have ever bought. I highly recommend it if you ever get a hold of it.
