Life recently. I spring-cleaned my room and now everything is light and airy but at the same time, warm and cosy. I can't wait for a bit of free time to sort out accesible storage for my ever-growing jewellery collection (a main problem of mine) and to collage everything I can get my hands on. My room now feels like these illustrations found on Tumblr. :)

You Can't Get What You Want (Til You Know What You Want)

 ^ Joe Jackson

Cheap Monday skirt
Matisse top from Madrid
mother's belt
Topshop boots
self-made earrings

Sun and daffodils, what more could you want for a spring lunchtime?  Inspired by Natalie, I got this skirt which I love because I never ever would have thought that a black denim maxi skirt with side slits would work... but it does. So well. C said it was "very 90's mom" and that can only be a compliment. :)

HAPPY 3RD BIRTHDAY TO LALA LAND! This blog means more to me than just a journal of my outfits. There's a complicated story behind why I started it. Every year I celebrate the fact that I did and how it's changed my life. :)

Existence before essence

gifted custom beanie
primark sweater painted by me
C's skirt
Topshop boots

I get a lot of comments on this hat, many asking what "existentialist" means(!). My friend N was joking about getting a custom beanie saying "nihilist" (mostly to be a pretentious hipster) and I told my parents about it. Since for my birthday I asked for the works of Sartre, Simone de Beauvoir and Kierkegaard, my parents thought it would be funny to get me an existentialist hat. And I love it. :)

I promise I'm not normally a flower person, but something about blossom just appeals to me. Maybe because I was born amid the Japanese cherry blossoms in DC. Yesterday I saw these blossoming trees, the first I've seen this year and I knew I HAD to take photos with them, like I intended to do all last spring but never got round so. I only want to wear pastels at the moment, but with art on full priority I can't, so I planned my pastel lilac and black outfit carefully for this shoot. :)

My new lens sure is beautiful but it's taking some getting used to shooting at 50mm when I was a strictly 18mm kinda girl (24-35 for flat shots). My dream lens combination is a f1.2 35mm and a standard-aperture 11-18mm without distortion correction. Excuse the camera geeking but I'm allowed to dream.

For some perverse reason, I really enjoy wearing reasonable amounts of black and greys in spring and summer. Probably because although my heart is leaping for joy at the light and the warmth (mostly the light, I don't like heat), my sense of English gloominess is too strong to whole-heartedly embrace florals. :)

Ok so it's definitely become a tradition to go to Amsterdam for/around my birthday. This time I went with V and R (pictured), two of my best friends and it was amazing exploring a beautiful city that I feel familiar with but still have so much to discover. Shockingly, it was the first time I'd rented a bike there - if you ever go, do it! The city is fun to explore on foot and tram but it's an incredible feeling whizzing down a cobbled road next to a canal in the spring sunshine, laughing your head off because you don't know the road rules! Also, this trip was a unlikely exercise in layering (these photos are deceptive), double denim and multiple outfit changes per day. I never knew it was possible to wear so many clothes at once. :)
